I am the fish rippling on the water
And I am the laughing sea-gull
Who swallows the fish
I am the imagination of the future
And I am the labourer
Who strives to build his image in the light
I am also the critic who pulls down that image
I am the hopeful joy, and I am the despair of no meaning
I am the one who knows he knows
Even if nothing is known by the knower
Who is laughing, what is laughter
I am the five year plan, the fifty year result
And the realization of the great dream
To be comfortable, safe, and in control
I am the man in the field lying in the sun
Holding a strand of grass - idling
And I am the busy diligent farmer
Carefully sowing seeds to harvest
I am the storm that destroys the crop
The night which takes the day
And that is why no-one can stop me
From being nothing, from lighting the light
The light that is a light that I cannot light
Not so bright, back down, on the ground
Waiting, ready, for the future, the new, the unknown
Ready for the next life
This life
